ITU is a specialized UN agency in the field of information and communication technologies. It defines recommendations in the field of telecommunications and radio, as well as regulates the international distribution of radio frequencies. According to the official website https://www.itu.int/, the union includes 193 countries and more than 900 members by sector and association. Among them, Russia is represented by only 15 organizations (the most widely known are Megafon, Kaspersky Lab and Rostelecom).
The main goal of the ITU is to ensure that everyone has access to information and communication. The Union aims to expand access to ICTs in all parts of the world, develops standards that ensure the smooth interaction of networks and technologies, and provides support to countries in implementing telecommunications development strategies.
The application for membership in this organization was approved by the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation in January 2021. On February 1, all official procedures were completed, and Svyazсom appeared in the list of ITU-T members on the association's website. By joining the ITU, we have become part of a community of more than 20,000 professionals. It is the world's largest network of experts and leaders from various fields in the global ICT system.
Why does Svyazсom need membership in the ITU?
- Access to information long before its official publication. Opportunity to be the first to learn important news and get acquainted with the documentation that is not in the public domain.
- Establishing business contacts: opportunity of direct interaction with employees of communication regulators.
- Opportunity to represent Russia in the international market of the telecom industry: participate in seminars and working meetings, share our own experience, learn about experiences and problems in different countries of the world.
- In addition, ITU members may have an advantage in participating in international tenders and competitions.
Joining the ITU opens up new opportunities for us to strengthen our position in the digital market. Strengthening our expertise will allow Svyazcom to build the most effective strategy for clients' development and growth. We strive to continuously improve our skills in order to be as useful as possible for you — our customers and partners. Joining the International Telecommunication Union is another step towards improving the quality of our services.
