Tariffing and processing WAP/HTTP/Internet traffic

This system measures billing of WAP and internet traffic depending on content of data, in contrast to standard billing methods, which are based on volumes of consumed data traffic.

Installation of such a system will enable a mobile operator to set different tariffs for various media and content downloaded by the subscriber even if different content is the same size in bytes.

SC.DMG can also be used for subscriber’s authentication in such services as web services, Push to Talk, IMS, SyncML, etc.

The platform consists of two subsystems which can be used independently:

  • SC.DMG_IP
  • SC.DMG_HTTP

Key features of SC.DMG_IP subsystem

  • Traffic accounting by IP direction and IP subnetworks
  • Classify IP direction by traffic type:
    • incoming
    • outgoing
    • bidirectional
  • Keep track of maximum traffic limit per subscriber, according to the account balance
  • Allow/deny access to IP directions, for example allow subscriber to access the operator’s web site, even with insufficient funds in subscriber’s account
  • Blocking traffic between subscriber’s subnetworks, if they are not connected to PDSN/GPRS networks, in order to avoid data traffic loops between PDSN/GPRS equipment and router
  • Generate billing information for postpaid accounting systems according to operator’s requirements
  • Interaction with billing system during an internet session, for debt prevention

Key features of SC.DMG_HTTP subsystem

  • Manage billing information for all requests for file downloads via HTTP, WAP gateway
  • Maintain database of subscriber’s MSISDN compliance with current IP address, using RADIUS Accounting
  • Generate billing information for postpaid accounting systems according to operator’s requirements
  • Billing information about HTTP/WAP subscriber’s requests consists of many fields, allowing very flexible traffic tariffing. It can also include various standard and non-standard fields from RADIUS packages received from GGSN
  • Prompt interaction with billing system — enforces limit for file downloads according to the account balance
  • Adding MSISDN field into HTTP headers for specific domains
  • Generating an information message to subscriber before redirecting to any paid resource
  • API for receiving a subscriber’s IP address from an external system, and replying with the subscriber’s IP address and MSISDN
